A dog owner I know said he gives his dog maple syrup occasionally because it’s healthy for them? Is that true? Can dogs even eat maple syrup?

If it’s pure maple syrup, yes. Maple syrup has some riboflavin, manganese, zinc, calcium, and amino acids, so it does have some nutritional benefits – fairly minimal though, and it’s mainly sugar, so it’s not that great.
You can give your dog some maple occasionally, and it’s A-OK.
Yes, but only occasionally and in small amounts. We’re talking no more than one tablespoon per 13 lbs (six kg) of body weight because the high sugar level can make them sick.
Also, make sure it’s pure maple syrup and doesn’t contain additives like xylitol which is toxic to dogs and may cause liver failure, hypoglycemia, and even death.
Consult with your vet if unsure.
