Metals, unlike nonconductors, have free electrons. Normal electrons follow a path called the orbitals, while free electrons don’t, hence the name.
Metals, in fact, have seas of free electrons, and the movement of these free electrons enables conduction. When electricity passes through metal, the sea of free electrons carries the electricity all over the metal, a.k.a. conduction.
