I found a cheap wire box made of plastic. I just want to make sure that plastic is an insulator, so in case any wire gets exposed, the wire box can handle it.

Insulators are materials that can efficiently trap heat and/or electricity and not allow those to flow through them.
Plastics are insulators – great insulators, in fact. That’s why we use plastic in a lot of things that are related to heat and electricity – like food storage or TV housings.
