I’ve been feeding an outdoor squirrel for months now, and it suddenly stopped coming. I thought maybe its time was on Earth was up. What’s the average lifespan of a squirrel?

Squirrels can live pretty long on average. It still depends on what species, though.
Red squirrels – up to 5 years in the wild.
Eastern fox squirrels – 8 to 18 years in the wild.
Southern flying squirrels – 3 to 5 years in the wild.
Eastern grey squirrels – up to 12 years in the wild.
Black squirrels (fox or eastern grey squirrels) – up to 6 years in the wild.
Ground squirrels – 2 to 4 years in the wild.

Note that they can live much longer in captivity because, of course, being in the wild exposes them to danger and diseases that could shorten their lives.
