What does K stand for in science? Chemistry, to be exact. I know it’s an element, but I can’t remember what and it’s been bugging me.

Potassium. K comes from kalium, the Mediaeval Latin for potash where the name Potassium is derived.
In addition to the previous commenter’s answer, the chemical symbol K is from the Neo-Latin/ Mediaeval Latin word for potash which is “kalium.” “kalium” is also believed to be derived from the Arabic word “qali,” which means alkali. Potassium is under the alkali metals group.
