How do you say “I love you” in Filipino?
I’m aware that there are many languages and dialects in the Philippines, and I want to know the one that’s widely understood in the Philippines (if that exists).
Thanks in advance!

I’m surprised to see a question about my language here. Thanks for your interest!
The most common way to say “I love you” in Filipino is “Mahal kita.”
This may be biased, but I believe the construction of this phrase is really beautiful.
In “I love you,” “I” and “you” are separate.
While in “Mahal kita,” they’re together.
“Mahal” means “love”
“Kita” means “us” or “we”
So in “Mahal kita,” you’re in love together, or you love you two rather than loving alone, “I love.”
Other variations of “Mahal kita”
Mahal na mahal kita – I love you so much
Mahal talaga kita/ Mahal kitang talaga – I really love you
Minamahal kita – I’m loving you
Mahal din kita – I love you too
Also, “Mahal” can mean a lot of things.
It can mean “valuable,” so the phrase can mean you also value each other.
It can also mean “expensive” because dates and gifts can be expensive lol.
