I walked past someone having dialysis and was quite shocked when I saw how much blood was passing through the machine. Just to help me visualize, how many pints of blood are in the human body?
On average, an adult will have around 10 pints of blood.
Adult men have an average of 10 to 11 pints, adult women have an average of 9 to 10 pints, children will have 70 to 75 ml per kg of body weight, while infants have 75 to 80 milliliters per kilogram (ml/kg) of body weight.
The amount of blood on a person will vary depending on their weight – the larger the person, the more amount of blood there is.
