Fathom is a unit of length used in old English, especially for measuring the depth of water, and it’s equal to 6 feet.
Fun fact: Even though most modern nautical charts use meters to indicate depth, the U.S. Hydrographic Office uses feet and fathoms. (Source: Wiki)
