What part of the pig does ham come from?
A ham is derived from the upper back leg, whereas a shank is derived from the lower leg. Some hams, however, are chopped to include a part of the leg. Shanks are also sold as ham hocks.
Is ham healthy to eat?
It’s high in protein as well as a variety of other nutrients. However, consuming processed meats like ham on a daily basis may raise your risk of certain malignancies. As a result, as part of a balanced diet, it’s recommended to limit your intake and stick to fresh, less processed forms of ham.
