Please help us choose a suitable pet for our family. We have been wanting to get a dog, but we have a child, so we have to be careful in choosing. For a family pet, is a Golden Retriever or a German Shepherd better?

Either is great for a family pet as long as they’re well trained.
They’re about the same size and energy levels (both high)
What it comes down to is your needs or preference. Golden retrievers are fun-loving, so they’re great as playmates. German shepherds, on the other hand, are more protective and loyal so, they’re great as guard dogs. So you choose – fun or security?
I’ve owned both.
First, they both shed a ton but, Golden Retrievers shed more than GSDs (German Shepherd Dog)
They’re both sweet and loves activities, but when it came to recreations, my Golden Retrievers were more open. They didn’t mind going swimming with us. I feel like my GSD loved to be more focused on guarding, which is understandable because they’re working dogs.
My Golden Retrievers were definitely more cuddly, too.
They were both smart, so training them was fairly easy, but my GSD learned so much more tricks than my Golden Retriever and caused a bit less trouble.
They were also great with each other, but that’s because I socialized them well at a young age. I heard other GSDs can have issues with other dogs (even people) when they’re not properly socialized.
They’re both great family dogs, but if you’re with a child and you’re not sure, getting a Golden Retriever is a safe bet.
Good luck, and if you can, please adopt instead of shopping 🙂
