I plan on traveling abroad alone and, just to be sure, would like to bring my pepper spray. Is it allowed on flights?

That depends on what airline you’re flying with, as different airlines have different policies.
JetBlue, Southwest, and United don’t allow pepper spray in both carry-on and check-in baggage but American and Frontier allows one properly sealed 4 fl. oz. pepper spray in check-in baggage.
TSA or Transportation Security Administration in the US does allow pepper spray but only on checked-in bags.
According to them, “One 4 fl. oz. (118 ml) container of mace or pepper spray is permitted in checked baggage provided it is equipped with a safety mechanism to prevent accidental discharge. Self-defense sprays containing more than 2 percent by mass of tear gas (CS or CN) are prohibited in checked baggage.”
But airlines have different rules, so it’s best to check your airline’s website or call them to be sure.
