Hello again. This is the last question for my grandchild’s homework. I know the answer to this is 5 but I don’t know the proper solution to this. If you can explain it to me so I can explain it to my grandchild then I’d be very thankful.

Fourths are calculated by dividing by 4.
One fourth of 20 = ¼ of 20 = 20 ÷ 4 = 5.
The solution could also look like this:
Use 1 as denominator and convert 20 into a fraction.
So, 20/1
Next, put 20/1 and 1/4 side by side and multiply them.
1 x 20 = 20
4 x 1 = 4 = 20/4
Simplify the new fraction by finding the greatest common factor of both numbers. For these numbers, it’s 4.
Divide both the new numerator and the denominator by 4 to simplify this fraction down to its lowest terms.
So,
20/4 = 5
4/4 = 1 = 5/1
The complete and simplified answer to the question what is 1/4 of 20 is:
5
Hope this helps!
