I saw a random hack video that didn’t have any explanations (as usual). It showed a person pouring salt on the drain. Why would someone pour salt on the drain? I do have some drainage problems, but I want to know if it’s beneficial before I waste good salt lol Thanks in advance!

Maybe it’s to avoid freezing of drain water in winter? Salt has a lower freezing point so it can help with that.
It’s “supposed” to help with clogs, but salt alone won’t do the trick – it’ll barely do anything but make water purification harder.
Salt plus boiling water will break down grease, but again it will hurt our water. Not only that, if you’re using PVC pipes, which don’t have the best heat resistance, you can warp the pipeline and cause leaks.
Use Vinegar and Baking Soda instead – they’re effective and safe for your septic tank and drain field.
Salt does have some sterilization power and kills microbes, so there’s that. But, it’s also not advisable if you have iron pipes in your sewer system because salt can ruin metals.
