I was watching a Bollywood movie today and at some point, I got distracted by a beautiful woman wearing a pretty outfit and is decorated with jewels. I noticed a red dot on her forehead. I’m still not sure of its meaning or what it represents, but I always see it somewhere (mostly just in media, hope I had friends who practice that culture). Can anyone educate me about that?

The “red dot on her forehead” is a Bindi. A Bindi is a colored dot worn on the center of the forehead, originally by Hindus and Jains from India. A Bindi is can also be called kumkum, sindoor, teep, tikli and bottu.
Bindi has different colors and symbols.
The red Bindi alone can have different meanings. Arguably the most notable meaning of red Bindis is it symbolizing love/ marriage. It can also be seen as a third eye that is not for seeing the world, but rather making a connection with God and keeps God in the “forefront of our minds and thoughts.”
