The full quote is “I never sleep, cause sleep is the cousin of death” and it was said by the American rapper Nas.
If we take it literally it makes sense, cousin = related = similar but not the same.
When you sleep, you’re basically shut down for a few hours because you don’t do anything. It’s like death with no commitment.
If death is stop, sleep is pause.
I interpret it as Nas saying he doesn’t pause or stop and keeps grinding.
