I visited a friend’s house and was culture-shocked when I saw this, but I don’t feel comfortable asking about it directly since it might be rude. Why would someone put a red cup under the toilet seat?

Thousands of comments and posts said it was just a clickbait “lifehack,” but I read one story that made sense (couldn’t find it though, forgot where I read it)
Apparently, it’s practiced in some rural areas as a safety measure.
Not sure if you’ve ever heard of snakes coming out of toilets – but they do, and it’s one of my weird fears lol
So, how the red cup under the toilet bowl works is that when the snake tries to slither out of the toilet and into your bedroom, it’ll knock off the red cup, and the toilet seat will either trap it or just make a loud noise that’ll alert you that a snake is spreading toilet water all over your house.
Some people also use toilet paper rolls.
