Can you dry shoes safely in the dryer? Sure, but only if the shoes’ materials can be machine dried.
Check the label that’s usually on the inner heel or tongue of your shoe. If there’s a square with an X, that means you can’t dry them in a machine. If it’s a square with a circle, that means it’s safe to put in the dryer. But always use low heat.
You can’t just toss your shoes in the dryer because, aside from making loud noises, it can ruin both your shoes and your dryer. What you can do is put in a bunch of other clothes or towels to minimize the thumping and then put your shoes in. You can also buy a dryer strap with a suction cup. How this works is the straps will go across your shoes, and the suction cup will be attached to the drum, holding your shoes in one place while the drum spins.
There’s also an actual dryer shoe bag that you can strap by the door of your dryer. You put your shoes inside that bag with the heels and sole against the door, and they’re suspended there so there’s absolutely no thumping. The shoe will only get heat and airflow.
Here’s a picture of the dryer shoe bag:

After washing with mild detergent, stuff some rags or any small clothes or towels your shoes, particularly at the tip, to prevent stretching or shrinking. Then, suspend your shoes inside the dryer. You can clamp the shoelaces with the door or connect your wet shoes that are inside the dryer to another pair of shoes outside (the other pair of shoes is basically a weight to keep the wet shoes suspended, this is better to keep your shoes from falling.) This way, your shoes aren’t flying around and damaging the drum of your washer, but they’re still getting the heat and airflow that will dry them. Always use the low heat setting so you don’t ruin your shoes. If your machine has to airdry function, that’s even better.
