Here are some things that are approximately 1 meter:
4 pieces of A4 size paper – two of them lengthwise, and two of them crosswise.

1 meter is 39.3701 inches. If you have a standard school ruler around, that’s 12 inches. So, 3 times a ruler is about 1 meter.
1 meter is 3.28084 feet, so if you’re about 6 feet tall, that’d be around your waist.
