Saw an article where a shark bit a jet ski and thought of this. How fast can sharks swim? Can it catch up on a running jet ski?

The top speed of a jet ski can vary from 40 to 70 mph, depending on the model.
The fastest shark is the Shortfin Mako Shark, and it can reach the speed of 31 mph with bursts up to 46 mph – some say it can even go up to 60 mph.
So, if your jet ski can only run up to 40 mph and you’re against a Shortfin Mako Shark, it can catch up to you.
The most common shark is the Spiny Dogfish, and they swim around 4.2 mph, so that’s safe. But, the average shark can swim up to around 30 mph.
