There are a number of ways through which an Asus laptop user can take screenshots. A screenshot can be taken on your laptop through the use of keyboard shortcuts. There are a number of keyboard shortcuts that are in-built into all Windows operating systems and this is how to achieve your goal.
It should be noted that screenshots should not be confused with screen captures which tend to take a video of the actions being taken upon on the screen. It may be recorded or live.
This answer aims at helping you utilize your Asus laptop to its fullest potential and work efficiently through the use of Keyboard shortcuts. Let us begin.
- Prt Sc or rather CTRL + Prt Sc (Prt Scn)
Prt Sc is an abbreviation for print screen and it is located at the top right-hand side of your Asus laptop. This keyboard shortcut method is one of the most popular methods when taking a screenshot on your laptop. It commands your operating system to take a screenshot of the current screen which is hopefully your targeted screen and it is off to the clipboard where it is saved. A big disclaimer is that this screenshot is not saved onto your hard drive as a file. You can open it with software such as Paint which will allow you to save in onto your machine as an actual file as well as add some edits, that is, if it was part of your plan for your screenshot.
- Windows + Prt Sc (Prt Scn)
If you don’t want to go through the hassle of not having the screenshot saved as a file on your hard drive. You can press the Windows key, which is located on the lower left side of your keyboard and the Prt Scn. This will save the screenshot as a file. This screenshot can be found in your file explorer under Pictures and there you will find a folder named Screenshots. The screenshot that you just took using this keyboard shortcut can be acquired from that location. Please note that this method is only compatible with Windows 8 and Windows 10. Kindly ascertain which Windows operating system you are running to avoid any discrepancies in the process.
Sometimes, some machines or operating systems do not have these premade keyboard short cuts or rather, the shortcuts are different from what was initially intended by the manufacturer. The reasons for this occurring are endless, however, we will focus not on the problem but alternative keyboard shortcuts tha may be the key to taking a screenshot from your Asus laptop.
- Alternative Method 1: Alt + Prt Sc (Prt Scn)
This method is similar to the first method. It saves the screenshot to the clipboard but not as a file on your hard drive. Just as the first method, it is necessary for you to open the screenshot with the Paint tool and save it as a file as well as render all the necessary edits that you require to complete on your screenshot.
- Alternative Method 2: Fn + Windows + Prt Sc (Prt Scn)
This is in the case that the first alterative method is not proving to be effective. The operating system may have been configured to use the Fn key as a way to take a screenshot. This keyboard shortcut is quite similar to the second method. It will allow our screenshot to be saved as a file and can be located at the Screenshot folder. The screenshot folder is found in the File Explorer, under the Pictures folder. Your screenshot will have a different name but you can recognize it through the date it was taken or a preview shown by the file explorer.
- Alternative Method 3: Fn + ALT + Prt Sc (Prt Scn)
This method is similar to the Alt + Prt Sc method because it allows users to take screenshots of active windows. The only difference is if the manufacturer configured it to work with the Fn key. The Fn key could be configured as some sort of lock to prevent any case of irregularly taken screenshots. When a user takes a screenshot with the Fn key, the operating system registers the command and completes the task.
There are other specific ways through which screenshots can be taken such as taking a screenshot of a particular section of your screen and not the whole screen. This can be done by pressing the Windows key + Shift + S. This is a much more specialized keyboard shortcut. It is similar to using a snipping tool which is our next method of specialized screenshots.
By using the snipping tool, you can ‘snip out’ section of the screen that you require and save anywhere on your machine.
